An oh so cold 2010 winter

Everyone has a choice... you can choose to hibernate in your home for the winter or you can choose to find winter things to do that will allow you to enjoy the beautiful world that a nice new snow fall can create.
It was the middle of January and the choice was made to get out there and view the scenes and enjoy the nice crisp air. A friend and I walked along some rails to see what could be found. The lake, the train bridge and then the train coming by was a pretty good first part to the day.

Moving on from our train track location, we found ourselves heading North through farm country and eventually to the Fundy Shore. We were fortunate enough to arrive at low tide which allowed us to walk out and tour a small cave in the what would of been, little island.

This next particular 5 hour road trip brought me through all possible weather possibilities. When I left my home it was sunny and fairly warm and after a couple of hours in the rain began. No big deal ... a bit of rain right? Well, as I was traveling North the temperature quickly dropped and the rain turned into an amazing amount of freezing rain. The 2 lane highway that was now covered with a smooth glossy film of ice soon began to be covered with snow. Needless to say, this 5 hour trip has taken a much longer turn.
The next morning, on the return trip, the stress of the previous nights drive yielded a beautiful opportunity for shooting the ice that still remained on the trees.

A late January afternoon, the choice and opportunity to enjoy a beautiful winter day proved to be the right choice. Fairly close to home, my friend and I walked on this lake that had all the summer reeds still standing, frozen up through the ice.

This little fellow was seen as I was driving buy. I parked there for a little while to see if he would be fortunate enough to find the snack I believe he was looking for.

Aside from driving and looking for nice scenes to view and photograph, I do socialize. As winter draw close to an end I have always have wanted to go to this maple sugar lodge and pancake house. This year action was finally taken and a few on our friends went up for breakfast and a bit of a walk.

After the breakfast, we decided to participate in the small tour of the sugar shack and enjoyed a sample of the fresh maple syrup that we poured onto the snow to create a tasty, sticky treat.

Well the hiking trails were not an option today due to the melting snow and the amount of mud that would be out in the woods. We decided to just walk up the road a little ways and do a little exploring. The first part of our walk produced some good laughs at the expense of those who tried to walk on the deep snow but found themselves sinking pretty far down making it practically impossible to walk through and ended up crawling their way back to the road.
We soon came upon this old shack that had a few old items still sitting around. What character this little place had. I could just picture someone sitting on the porch enjoying the great view of the valley it over looked.

The last stop our our journey after the sugar shack was to this old, abandoned boat on the shores of a river. It's so great being out for a day and being able to hop out of the car for intresting shots and not be rushed off to a schedule that needs to be met. Not sure the story of this boat, but I hope that even though it has been abandoned here for some time now and while some may say it's garbage and an eye sore, that some others like myself take the time to enjoy viewing the effects that have taken it's toll as well as thinking about the stories this little boat could share.

Fall Season 2010

With the fall season comes plenty of storms to the south of us. Being on the east coast further north, a few times every fall we get the storm remnants of the rain and wind. These pictures of the surf and fishermen trying to get control of their boats was due to tropical storm Earl.

Having my camera with me most times allows for spontanious stops during my drives to catch some intresting skies and scenes. This drive through Cape Breton was jsut one of those times I was able to enjoy the sites and also grab a few frames to share.

Another route, another day, but this time in the Nova Scotia Valley, this little bush caught my eye. I am very glad that U-turns are not illegal or many of the scenes would be just passed by.
